Preston may still be searching out their first win of the season, but they certainly didn’t play like a winless team last week in a hard fought loss against one of Idaho 4A’s best in Sugar-Salem. The Indians put up a season high 35 points against a top 3 4A defense and witnessed success both through the air and the ground racking up 530 total yards. They will take that season swinging momentum into their first home game since more than a month ago as they celebrate Homecoming. Add in a health factor that was plaguing the Indians early on, now no longer as much of an issue and you have a practically rebuilt team just in time for the home stretch of the season.
South Fremont may be Preston’s last non-conference game, but we may as well make them a temporary member of District 5 as they’ve played and beaten all three other SE Idaho Conference teams in 4A, all by two or more possessions to boot. This makes this game more than just a pre-district schedule test, but a great barometer to gage where Preston stands. Outside of wins over Bear Lake, Snake River and American Falls, the Cougars have also bested North Fremont 53-0 and West Jefferson 38-18. Their one loss was just down the road from PHS, a 28-13 loss to West Side. SFHS averages 31 points a night while boasting a top 2 defense in 4A by only allowing 10.
