Woodruff , UT. – Seven teens from the Ogden area, aged between 14 to 17, were involved in a vehicle crash on SR-39 near milepost 42 near the Rich County-Weber County line on Thursday morning.
Police say that the driver of the Honda Accord attempted to negotiate a right-hand turn on SR-39, just south of Monte Cristo Campground, when the car rolled, went off a cliff and landed in a tree. The car was suspended some 120 feet off the road making rescue more difficult.
Officials from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office state that there were occupants ejected during the crash. While it is unknown at this time if any of the teens were wearing seatbelts, a Honda Accord is only designed to seat five.
Authorities say speed is being investigated as a factor in the crash, with early estimates suggesting that the vehicle was traveling at speeds of 70 miles-per-hour plus in a 40 mile-per-hour zone.
Four of the teens were flown to area hospitals and listed in critical condition, Two were transported to Primary Children’s Hospital, and three were taken to hospitals by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
