LOGAN, Utah – Logan will now become the third city in Utah, following Park City, and Moab to ban single-use plastic bags.
The Logan Municipal Council passed the ordinance during a meeting on Tuesday.
The ordinance itself does include an alternative / ultimatum for shop owners who wish to continue providing customers with the option of plastic bags, but that will come at the cost of 10 cents per bag.
Businesses that do not participate will also be charged a handling fee costing $17.50 per ton of waste, according to the ordinance.
The hope is that the new single-use plastic bag ordinance will cut down on the cities plastic waste, which accounts for more than 60 percent of Cache County’s total plastic waste, according to the city’s environmental director.
The ban will take effect on April 22, 2020.
