Box Elder County, UT.   –    48-year-old William K. Atkinson of Logan was discovered deceased at the scene of a a rollover crash on State Route 30 in Box Elder County early Wednesday morning.

The crash along State Road 30 near Beaver Dam, went undetected for several hours, until a passing semi-truck noticed the small car off the road in a grain field. The driver reported the accident to authorities just before 8:15 a.m.

When emergency responders arrived on scene, they found the white 2002 Chevrolet Prism, upright on its wheels, but battered and surrounded by debris.

The press release detailed the accident, “The vehicle was in the outside lane and drifted off the road to the right,” “It went onto the shoulder and after the vehicle was completely off the roadway the vehicle veered back to the left. It came back onto the roadway and went across both westbound and both eastbound lanes. The vehicle went off the eastbound side of the road and down a small slope toward a field, where the vehicle rolled.”

Investigators believe the accident was related to fatigued driving, and that Atkinson was ejected during the crash because he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash likely occurred between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m., but was not easily visible from the roadway until the sun came up.

“We are grateful for the semi driver who saw something and called it in when he did,” said Lt. Perry with the Utah Highway Patrol. “If it hadn’t been for him [semi driver], who knows when it would have been found.”
