NORTHWEST, Idaho – Ed O’Hara of Hayden, Idaho landed the latest catch/release state record bull trout while fishing Lake Pend Oreille on Aug. 29. O’hara displayed the 31-inch native char in a photograph, after a quick measurement. He then released the fish to claim a new catch/release state record.

Lake Pend Oreille is known for producing trophy trout, and has produced many record fish, including the “certified weight” record bull trout of 32 pounds, caught in 1949. Harvesting of bull trout is illegal in Idaho, but they are still eligible for catch/release records.
