Vernal, UT. – The Pine Ridge Fire located approximately 18 miles northwest of Vernal, Utah which first started shortly after 1 p.m. on Saturday, is now at 50 percent containment. Incident Commander, Jason Porter, stated that the majority of the fire is likely to be contained by end of shift on Thursday. The Pine Ridge Fire has burned an estimated 519 acres of BLM, Private, and U.S. Forest Service land as of May 27th. Firefighters fought the blaze from the air on Sunday, and no new acreage was consumed on Monday. Commander Porter also stated that there was no movement on Sawtooth Ridge, but cautioned that smoke may still be visible in the upcoming weeks due to smoldering in steep and rocky terrain.
