PROVO, Utah — Utah County Sheriff Search and Rescue and North Fork Fire Rescue responded to an injured ice climber on Sunday, on the Stairway to Heaven route near Bridal Veil Falls, outside Orem.

The female climber was injured when she was hit in the head by falling ice.

The search and rescue teams were able to stabilize the climber, then lower her via rope systems to a waiting ambulance.

The victim was wearing a helmet, according to the press release. Rescuers say wearing the helmet likely prevented the woman from sustaining more serious injuries.

Utah County Sheriff Search and Rescue would like to remind people that ice climbing is inherently dangerous, and that use of a helmet and adherence to proper safety techniques could save your life.
