Santaquin Canyon, UT. – The Santaquin Utah County Sheriff’s Office has identified 16-year-old, Kaylee Marvin, as the girl who died after falling close to 100 feet while hiking in Santaquin Canyon on Monday.
In a news release Marvin’s family stated that Kaylee was “beautiful inside and out”.
Marvin was hiking with her father and a friend at 10:25 a.m., on Monday, when rescue crews were called reporting the fall. Kaylee had lost her footing, then slipped and fell while climbing near a waterfall close to four miles from the mouth of Santaquin Canyon.
Marvin suffered serious head and leg injuries in the fall and was not conscious or breathing.
Kaylee’s friend performed CPR until emergency crews arrived, then responders continued to perform CPR for an aditional 40 minutes. A medical helicopter was also dispatched to the canyon.
Marvin was determined to be deceased at the scene, and the incident has been deemed a tragic accident by the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner.
Santaquin Canyon remained closed through Monday afternoon, with Santaquin fire officials asking that people avoid the area.
