Gilmore, ID.    –     40 year-old Westley Portwood of Pocatello, died Tuesday as a result of injuries sustained in a paragliding crash. Portwood was operating a motorized paraglider when he went down Tuesday afternoon east of Gilmore, located about 150 miles north of Pocatello.

Deputies with the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of the crash around 3:40 p.m., where they located Portwood and the wreckage of his downed paraglider. Emergency medical crews from Leadore and Search and Rescue crews from Salmon also responded to the incident.

Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful and Portwood was pronounced dead.

Information on the cause of the crash has not yet been released, and the crash remains under investigation.
