Cheyenne, WY.  –  Laurie Hernandez, division director of standards and assessment for the Department of Education, says that a newly formed committee will be responsible for drawing up new social studies standards over the next couple of months, prior to a review from the state education board. The Education Department is also in the process of conducting reviews of math and science standards.

Hernandez says that teachers are currently being surveyed about how they feel the standards should be updated, and that public comments on how to best update the standards were taken during the summer.

It is expected that the revised K-12 education standards, including a new Native American history component, could be ready for the State Board review by January or February 2018.
