Idaho Falls, ID. – Idaho Fish and Game officials are saying that lightning that accompanied the hail storm late Saturday, is the likely cause of death for between 50 and 100 geese.

The geese were discovered near Yellowstone Avenue and Lincoln Road in Idaho Falls, where 50 geese lay dead in a parking lot and close to 60 more were found dead on a nearby the roof.

Snow geese and Ross’s Geese were among the dead geese that were recoved, all killed in what Idaho Fish and game is calling a freak accident.

The geese appeared to have fallen from the sky at the same time, and in the same several hundred yard radius, which lead to the initial speculation that a lightning strike could be the cause.

Some of the geese carcasses were taken to a Caldwell wildlife health lab for a necropsy.
